Pink Goes Great with Green - No KXL pipeline!

June 6, 2013
Bay Area CODEPINK
Palo Alto, CA

Janet Weil's report back:

CODEPINKers from around the Bay converged in a lovely upscale neighborhood in Palo Alto where Obama arrived for yet another fundraiser for the Dems. We chanted, sang, marched and stood in vigil with about 200 allies to say NO to the KXL pipeline, no to filthy tar sands oil extraction, and yes to renewable energy and peace.

I picked up a hot pink sign from a South Bay CODEPINKer (thanks Diana!) and engaged in interesting conversations with sister bird-lovers. The sign depicts the severe suffering of birds covered in oil and diluted bitumen.

Janine Boneparth, whose courageous direct action against the southern leg of the KXL pipeline is documented in "Lockdown" (see below), joined me for dancing to the Brass Liberation Orchestra. As usual, the CODEPINK contingent was eagerly photographed by pros and fellow protesters.

Raging Grannies led us in a spirited sing-along of "Call Out Mark Zuckerberg for Supporting KXL Pipeline" to the tune of "Goodnight Irene." The last stanza goes like this:

"Hey, all of us live on this planet/You trash it and WE are toast/Make dough or protect our future/Decide which matters most".

These words relate as much to the POTUS, the decider for the completion of the very dangerous KXL pipeline, as to billionaire Facebook founder Zuckerberg who is strangely funding PR in support of the tar sands pipeline.

CODEPINK will continue to bring our "Pink Goes Great with Green" visuals, messaging and direct action experience as this struggle continues.
