CODEPINK Mainers, Occupy Portland Mainers, Maine Civil Liberties Union Executive Director Shenna Bellows and Occupy attorney John Branson gathered in downtown Portland today to stand for Bradley Manning. Employing whistles to communicate that whistleblowers are vital to democracy and deserve protection, not punishment, about 40 people stood with signs marking Manning's 1,000th day in jail without trial. Branson and Bellows addressed Constitutional issues raised by Manning's treatment, and , and Occupy spokesperson Holly Seeliger talked about about government suppression of freedom of information. CP Local Coordinator Lisa Savage spoke about participating in past support actions at Quantico and Ft. Leavenworth and CP Local Coordinator Pat Taub mc'd.
