In May, two activists, Flora and Elsa, were handcuffed and detained for trying to deliver flowers to the guards at the gate to Beale Air Force Base as a goodwill gesture. Luckily, the charges have been dismissed and no court appearances were needed, thanks to some excellent legal aid. Then in June, while I was "on leave" in Scandinavia, our peaceful monthly encampment was disrupted by an angry man who suddenly appeared and tore down our banners. Determined as we are, the activists quickly put the banners back up. However, while activists were sleeping at night, this war supporter returned and destroyed some of our banners. This famous Gandhi quote tells it like it is: "First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win." For now, it seems that we are in the fighting phase.
